Your plants stay on your device
Plants is a private app. This page says what the page does with your data.
This is general care advice. Check the label of your plant. Keep toxic plants away from pets and children.
What happens to your data
- Your plants, places, notes, history and pictures stay in this browser. The page sends them to no server.
- The page has no account, no sign-in and no ads.
- The page saves your data in local storage. The key is plants:data:v1. Anyone who can use this browser profile can read it.
- A picture is made small in your browser. Nothing reads it. The page has no photo recognition.
- The dates are computed in your browser from the answers you give.
- Cloudflare hosts this site. Cloudflare Web Analytics may count page views. These counts hold no data from your plants.
- If the page has an error, it sends an error report to the server. The report has no plant, no picture and no note.
- When you add a plant, finish a soil check or save an export, the page sends one anonymous count to our server. It has the tool, which job (for example "soil_checked"), the page type, and mobile or desktop. It has no plant, no answer, no picture and no note. No cookie, no IP address.
- If you allow reminders, the page also sends the server the dates when care is due and how many checks there are. See Reminders below.
Reminders (optional)
If you allow notifications, we keep the address of your browser's push service and two keys that let us send messages to your device. We use them only to send you notifications from this app. We do not share them. Push services (Apple, Google or Mozilla) carry the messages and see that a message was sent. You can stop at any time with the Stop notifications button. We then delete these data.
We keep only the dates when care is due and the number of checks. We never get the names, photos or notes of your plants. We also keep your time zone, and the last day we sent you a message.
The data stay until you press Stop notifications, or until the push service tells us your device is gone. If you do not allow notifications, we keep nothing for reminders.
Your copies and your choices
- Choose Download JSON on the start page to save a copy. The file has your pictures. It goes to your device only.
- You can import a JSON export on another device. Nothing goes through a server.
- Choose Delete all data on the start page to remove everything. You can also clear the site data of your browser.
- If you clear the site data without a copy, your plants are gone. The app cannot get them back.
